Nicholas Makiej lives in the Boston, MA area with his wife Julianna. He has painted icons for Orthodox Churches and individuals in in New England and in various states across the US. Nicholas has pursued the visual arts his entire life. He has maintained a steady studio practice of oil painting and iconography since receiving his BFA in 2021.

Baptized in the Greek Orthodox Church and raised in the faith, he has been surrounded by the beauty of iconography his entire life. This beauty, along with a natural inclination for art and encouragement from his family, has become the foundation of his vocation for the visual arts and orthodox iconography.
Nicholas has been a commissioned artist since high school—starting with pencil portraits, and later expanding to oil paintings and icons. He has taught the visual arts in public schools and with private students since 2021. He has experience with all age levels; he has worked with children ages kindergarten through high school.
